Over the last four years, Eco Beach Broome Resort has been working to realize this dream. The site is ideally suited for a world class holiday destination. Located on the southern side of Roebuck Bay, stunning views are on offer in all directions. Activities include bushwalking, ocean swimming, fishing, mud crabbing in nearby Jacks Creek, indigenous interpretive activities and horse riding.

Eco Cabins are positioned to provide guests with privacy in stunning natural surroundings. Much commercial development work has been done on the accommodation. The new Eco Beach will feature lightweight eco-cabins based on Karl’s concepts and Paul Meschiati’s designs which are now under construction in partnership with Eco Structures at the experimental Eco Research Village behind Cable Beach Club Resort. Each cabin will offer energy efficient comfort and feature ensuite bathroom facilities. The cabins will be sited on the old resort cabin footprints and joined by walkways similar to the original resort layout. A special feature of the new resort will be the Eco Beach Spa. The Spa will offer all the treatments expected of a resort spa including massages, healing and beauty therapies and health treatments.

Its facilities and specialist staff will allow the resort to be transformed into a health retreat for visiting groups, with dietary, fitness, weight and health programs on offer. Karl is very pleased that the 70 year lease over the site is in place, and the government has approved a new access road. Government approval for additional land for an airstrip is likely to be confirmed in six months. The airstrip will benefit the planned new resort, as it will provide better tourist access, increased opportunities for day visiting and additional safety access.

The 5,000 tree seedlings which were planted at Eco Beach four years ago, and were only 100 ml high are now 3 metres and transforming appearance of the site. The resort’s relationship with traditional owners has deepened and strengthened over the past four years. Neil McKenzie has helped with the design and planning process for the new resort and says “We are all looking forward to working with Eco Beach, which will provide training and employment opportunities for local people.” Neil has also been successful in gaining a grant for preparing a business plan for a native animal rehabilitation centre to be sited adjacent to the resort. With much of the planning process out of the way, we are looking towards the future with keen anticipation.

Although refusing to commit to completion time frames we are preparing for the next phase in what will undoubtedly be another award winning tourism venture.

Our eco home designs aim to create spacious, open-plan living and entertaining areas with generous deck space. The end product is a modern-day house encompassing a relaxed outdoor lifestyle.

The structures are computer designed and engineered for ease of erection. The portal framework is made out of strong steel and delivered to us in kit form, this makes for a simple, quick and accurate building process – just like building a model. The kit principal also minimises labour costs.

All eco houses are made out of a modular kit frame system with high structural integrity and can be positioned on any site, regardless of its contours.

“Sandpiper”
A Unique 3 x 2 family home with the master bedroom separated from the main living area giving it a retreat feeling. The central pavilion entertaining area being the focus of the adjoining modules.

This modern day home is three bedroom, two bathroom and is designed with spacious open plan living and entertaining areas to create a stylish comfortable home.

“Clearview”

Kennedy’s Store

built in the early 1900s, is one of Broome’s oldest developments. The most important aspect of this reconstruction project was to retain as much of the original building to preserve its historical integrity and structural strength. We then constructed the additional structures around it in a similar style using the kit system and comprised of a single storey and two storey development.

Extensions to the Broome International Airport

The Broome International Airport was a very challenging site to construct due to the ongoing traffic of people and vehicles in the area. However, the kit system enabled us to speed up the building process resulting in a coordinated, smoothly run, cost-effective project.

The Airport was designed for maximum use of all areas, providing a new Broome style departure terminal including a new bar, gallery and souvenir shop, together with a new car park pick-up and set-down areas to cater for growing tourist numbers in Broome. Features of our commercial developments include:

• working closely with the architects to perfect the design and adapt quickly to any changes needed during construction;
• use of computer generated 3D graphics and steelwork modelling which enabled precise manufacture of steelwork and a short erection time awarding individual style to each project by utilising and maximising the natural ‘capital’ of each building site;
• using local materials wherever possible.

Shiba Lane, Broome

Eco Beach took out top honours at the prestigious 2011 Perth Airport Western Australian Tourism Awards held in Perth on Saturday night.

Eco Beach Broome was awarded with Unique Accommodation and the Qantas Award for Sustainability for the second year running as well as taking out the Eco Tourism award category. At the end of the evening the winners of all 30 categories stood on stage in anticipation for the top honor, the Sir David Brand Award for Tourism, the announcement was made that Eco Beach Broome had also won this category.

Managing Director, Karl Plunkett accepted the award, acknowledging the Kimberley as an amazing part of the world.

First introduced in 1972, the Awards were named in honour of the first Western Australian Minister for Tourism, and former Premier, Sir David Brand, and have continued to grow and develop with the industry, reflecting the diversity, passion and professionalism of tourism in Western Australia. Eco Beach has continually developed the experience offered to guests since opening at the end of May in 2009.
